Summer Program Director Cora Garner is an American Camp Association Member. She came to us after working at Cornell University, Stanford University, and most recently the University of California, Berkeley. Through her work in Higher Education, she has developed and taught courses that focus on identity and community development.

At Girls Leadership we want you to be true-to-you. Every day starts with community games. Our theatre-based workshops focus on developing personal and societal leadership, such as how to ask for what you need. In these sessions girls practice new tools for speaking up for themselves and for others.

We also create beautiful art projects, stay active outside, and always have a spirit theme for the day. These activities are designed to encourage girls to embrace who they are, reflect on what they believe, and give them an opportunity to express themselves creatively.

OTHER CAMP INFO: The Project Endeavor Experience takes students and faculty from around the globe and works with each participant to hone their skills and talents. Each participant will be assigned a team and each team will work with a team leader to design a project or perform a routine or create a masterpiece that will be shown to members of that given field at a final banquet. The team that is elected by members of that profession will be honored at the event and will be able to meet with the judges. As a part of the Project Endeavor experience, each team will base their project and the competition on behalf of a local charitable organization. The winning team will receive a donation on its behalf from Project Endeavor to the selected organization.

Every week-long session includes an overnight farm trip where campers have the opportunity to harvest vegetables, cook, play in the dirt and camp out under the stars. Do I need to provide a tent or other camping equipment for the overnight farm trip? No, your camper will not need to bring their own tent. For the overnight camping trip your child will need his or her own sleeping bag, clothes and personal items.

What is Bay Leaf Kitchen's background/experience? The Bay Leaf Kitchen team have an extensive background in camping, cooking, teaching and education management. For a detailed history please check out our Who We Are or Mission & Values pages.

What kind of knives or other equipment will campers be using? Campers will be using age appropriate kitchen equipment including safe knives, stoves, ovens, and mixers with guidance and supervision of Bay Leaf Kitchen staff.

What is your cancellation policy? Our refund policy is designed to discourage last minute cancellations and to help families on the waiting list. The tuition is refundable (minus a $50.00 application fee) for requests received in writing, via e-mail, to info[AT]bayleafkitchen.org before May 15th, 2017. After May 15th, there is no refund unless the space can be filled by another camper. During camp, there is no refund for camper illness, missed days, vacations, or dismissal from the program. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The faculty consists of renowned lecturers, veterans in International Mathematical Olympiads (IMO) and Olympiad coaches, who have successful careers in math, science, and technology, with many years of classroom teaching experiences. Among them are: Dr. Kevin Wang, founder of Areteem and Math Zoom, former IMO China Team member, former math faculty at UC Irvine and UCLA; Dr. Harold B. Reiter, math professor at UNCC, who is very well known and well respected in math education and math competitions. The camp curriculum will cover some or all of the following topics: For Math: Modular arithmetic, Numbers and their digits & divisors, Basic and advanced counting strategies, Combinatorics, Polynomials and their coefficients & zeros, Algebraic inequalities and other techniques, Special angles and regular polygons, Centers of triangles, Collinearity and concurrency, Trigonometry, Vector and Coordinates.

Various problem solving techniques will be introduced, as well as Math contest strategies. For Science: Scientific research methodologies, principles in mechanics, electricity and magnetism, optics, thermodynamics, etc., and real world applications such as roller coaster theory (you can learn to design your own roller coaster and build it at the camp!). CAMP FACILITIES: Our lodge, rebuilt in 2000, is a 1,400 square foot log structure. It features a great fireplace, a 1,000 square foot open-air deck, and a feeling of rustic nostalgia that will make your wedding, conference, seminar, retreat, or picnic unforgettable.

Established by 5 Valley YMCAs the property of Sequoia Lake is held in trust by the Sequoia Lake Conference of YMCAs to be operated exclusively by The YMCA. In 2010 YMCA Camp Sequoia Lake became its own branch of the Golden State YMCA Association to host all of the Associations camping programs managing all programming on Sequoia Lake. CAMP FACILITIES: Campers live in cabins (wooden buildings with canvas window and door coverings). Up to 10 campers and 2 or 3 staff members live together. Bathrooms with flush toilets and hot showers are located nearby. Meals are served buffet style. We eat outside in the dining area. Food is excellent with fresh fruit, salad bar and hot entrees at each meal. Vegetarian and vegan meals are also available. Special diets can be accommodated with conversations ahead of time.

CAMP FACILITIES: We are located on 220 acres in the Malibu mountains. It is a nice rustic-type camp , with refurbished boys' side cabins as of 2014 and the girls' side on schedule for refurbishment within the next couple of years. We have an outdoor pool, basketball courts, ping pong tables, gaga court, sports field, ropes course (upper and lower elements) hiking trails, indoor dining hall, conference center, an area for outdoor camping and adventures and more. We have an organic garden, and animal center - with 26 horses, goats, donkeys, chickens, rabbits, a cow and more.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We offer two week sessions for children entering grades 2-8, three-week sessions for children entering grades 5-8, special one-week mini-camps for children entering grades 2-6, and a variety of programs for teens entering grades 9-12.
The heart of Camp JCA Shalom is our friendly and loving staff. Staff are carefully selected for their skills and sensitivity in working with children. Our staff comes from all over the world: Los Angeles, the Bay Area, the Southwest, the East Coast, Canada and Israel.

All staff are required to participate in an orientation and training program prior to the campers’ arrival.

Low camper-to-staff ratios ensure that each camper receives attention and guidance throughout his/her stay. In addition, we have talented staff who run our arts & crafts, ropes course, dance, music, aquatics, Judaica, nature, and other specialty programs.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS:
TASC : Teen Age Service Camp
(entering 10th -11th grades)

TASC is geared toward developing leadership, through a group-oriented community project implemented by the campers, and through special programs. Throughout the session, TASCers experience pride and fulfillment as they enrich the Camp JCA Shalom campus. In addition, TASCers get to experience the best components of the general camp program along with a special out-of-camp overnight trip. For over 45 years, the TASC program has been one of our most popular teen programs.

TASC : California Kibbutz -
(entering 11th grades)

TASC Kibbutz is a new program created just for entering 11th graders. This program is an immersive three week program designed to be the ultimate Jewish camping and leadership experience. In TASC Kibbutz, we transport ourselves back a hundred years ago to feel what it was like for some of the pioneers who made their way to Israel. The "Kibbutzniks" will have to "create their own world" at camp. They will build their own living area, cook many of their own meals, and even help work the farm at camp! By creating a kibbutz at JCA, the Kibbutzniks will come together as a tightly knit community, grow closer to the land; learn about sustainability and organic farming; and gain knowledge of kibbutz life in Israel- all while having fun at camp! While the Kibbutzniks will spend the majority of time creating their kibbutz, they will still be connected to camp, spending sometime every day with the rest of the camp community, and still participating in many of camps offerings such as horseback riding and the ropes course. At the end of the program, the Kibbutzniks will leave with a sense of accomplishment, a set of friends for life, and a true finale of their last camp experience before becoming a Counselor-In-Training (CIT).

These future leaders have a lasting effect on both the spirit and welfare of Camp JCA Shalom. Workshops in Jewish programming, child development and leadership training, along with observation, individual supervision and actual work with younger campers, helps the CIT explore the functioning and philosophy of camp, and develop his/her leadership abilities. This is an enriching and exciting experience as well as an important step towards future staff positions at camp. By the end of the summer, the CITs have the opportunity to become junior counselors during Session 3, and will receive a small stipend. Personal Interview required.

All Teen Leadership Programs:

CAMP FACILITIES: Training is held at the Potrero Field on campus. This complex features space equal to four full size soccer fields. The camp's exclusive use of these fields insures that they are in magnificent condition. Even our professional players on the staff, who expect perfect playing surfaces, appreciate the chance to work on such well-kept fields. Games are also held in the New Arroyo Hall gym next door to the dorms. CAMP FACILITIES: We have 12 rustic cabins, 1/3 acre natural pond, modern kitchen/dining room, activity building with small group rooms and a game room, Chapel, archery range, shower houses, arts and crafts area, outdoor games, 1/2 court basketball court, 2 campfire areas.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Pendola is an ACA accredited camp. Serving an average of 65 campers each week. sessions range in size from 40 - 96. All of campers spend at least one night sleeping out under the stars. Except for our very youngest campers (Grades 1 and 2), campers hike to remote camp sites, most on Tahoe National Forest Service land, play, prepare dinner and breakfast the following morning, and sleep out under the stars.

Camp staff are college age young adults who are hired for the season. All staff are certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. About 1/2 of the staff have basic certification in Wilderness First Aid. And 90% of the staff are certified lifeguards.

CAMP FACILITIES: Parents use their local pool to supervise kid's stroke drills and video them underwater so they can see and correct their stroke.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Since 1985, the only swim camps that teach parents how to teach their kids to swim like World Record holders using a smartphone underwater video camera. Our swimmers have won 43 Gold Medals, state and national championships, and have set 11 World Records.

Computer analysis of our swimmers at Colorado Springs showed that they doubled their peak hand force output in just five days. Dryland and Pool sessions are 3 hours each and include underwater videotaping and special drills to improve stroke efficiency. Most freestylers cut their stroke count in half. Each camp is a total of 30 hours.

Dryland sessions include stroke, strength and flexibility analysis, Microfiber Reduction to increase flexibility beyond what stretching alone can do, and stretches and strength training exercises. Each swimmer receives a 2500 yard workout to do at home after the camp, and a Somax Powerbelt to increase the strength and speed of hip rotation. Parents report improved school grades after chest expansion is doubled.

What Can you Expect?

CAMP FACILITIES: In both NYC and LA, campuses are accessible only with a valid AMDA photo identification card, which High School Summer Conservatory students receive.

Supervision is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. When students are not in class with our world-class faculty, they are supervised by members of our trained AMDA staff.

What Can you Expect?

CAMP FACILITIES: Our expansive facility houses 40 cabins, each with built-in bunks, full bathrooms, shower facilities and radiant floor heating. Brand new dining hall and kitchen. CAMP COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Brief Description: Camp counselors at Pali Adventures are responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of campers. They supervise campers in a cabin setting, at mealtimes, and during activities. Counselors are in charge of facilitating activities throughout the day. Counselors work as a team to ensure all campers have a fun and memorable experience at camp. Counselors report directly to their Specialty Director and Group Leader.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Exhibit characteristics of responsibility, dependability, leadership, patience, punctuality, hard work, sense of humor, self-control, integrity, common sense, good judgment and a positive enthusiastic attitude.
 Complete the staff application and interview process.
 Attend staff training (May 30 – June 12) and all in-service trainings.
 Must have completed high school and be a minimum 18 years of age or older as of 5/30/20.
 Desire and ability to work with children.
 Other duties as assigned

Staff members are entrusted with the care and safety of young children in a rustic setting replete with natural and man-made dangers. All staff members must have the ability to respond immediately to an emergency. Any staff member with a disability that may affect the Staff Member’s ability to physically perform these requirements should immediately inform the Human Resources Department to determine possible reasonable accommodations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

• Serve the campers as a positive role model.
• Camp staff members will actively supervise campers both in assigned cabin groups (typically 10 campers and 2 counselors) and at assigned specialty, elective, evening and weekend activity programs.
• All campers should feel comfortable, safe and included.
• Learn the likes and dislikes of each camper in your care by showing genuine interest.
• Recognize and respond to the opportunities for problem solving in the group.
• The counselor is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of each camper within their cabin group and with whom they come into contact. E.g. drinking water, daily showers, teeth brushing, active supervision during rest/ down time, application of sunscreen and lip balm, appropriate attire for the activity they will be attending, etc.

• Provide opportunities for each individual to experience success during camp.
• The staff member must never leave campers unsupervised.

• Develop opportunities for positive interaction between campers and staff.
• Provide opportunities for each individual to experience success during camp.
• Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations.
• Know where your campers are at all times.

Other Job functions
 On a rotating basis, all staff members will be scheduled to assist with the serving of meals
 The staff member may be required to transport campers in camp vehicles in a safe acceptable manner, obeying all posted safety regulations.

CAMP FACILITIES: Sino Language is pleased to have the The Second High School Attached to Beijing Normal University be our host campus for our Chinese Language & Culture Immersion summer camp in Beijing (LCB). The School was founded in 1953. With the fine school spirit and high teaching quality, the school enjoys a high reputation in the society as well as international influence. It is a prime or a �key� high school of Beijing municipality, and one of the first model schools of Beijing Education Commission.

The School is not only pride of being highly respected in teaching, but also emphasis enough on students� well-rounded development. The end-of-program tour offers a chance to enjoy the peculiar natural beauty, brilliant culture, and the nomadic lifestyle of Mongolians. Language skills improvement and Chinese culture understanding are equally weighted in this program. Experience the significance historical and cultural mountain - Mt. Tai, one of the "Five Great Mountains" of China. Camp participants will also visit the hometown of Confucius and learn more about the Confucianism.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Levels: There will be four levels at the camp: MathCounts/AMC-8, AMC10/12, AIME, and USAMO.

Curriculum: Each week will be devoted to one of the four main areas. The focus will be on Number Theory and Algebra/Analysis in Period-I and Geometry and Combinatorics in Period-II.

The students will be equipped with necessary background in lectures and trained with different types of problems to master various problem solving techniques. The classes are problem solving-based whose curriculum is aligned with prestigious national and international competitions. They provide a motivational and challenging environment for students.

Lectures are given by A* Faculty and other instructors who have participation and/or training experience in national/international Olympiads such as USA Math Olympiads (USAMO) and the International Math Olympiads (IMO).
