Avodah

Avodah is a multifaceted, service-based program in which campers play an integral role in camp’s day-to-day operations. Avodahniks develop a strong work ethic and serve as Jewish role models at camp. Beyond daily activities, campers work diligently on a significant camp improvement project and march as a team in both the annual Pride Parade and AIDS Walk in San Francisco.

Our highly-selective and popular CIT program trains our future staff and camp leadership, offering young adults a valuable personal and professional growth opportunity. Leadership workshops and Judaic programs are combined with practical hands-on training with children of all ages.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our camp is located at St. Michael's Abbey of the Norbertine Fathers. The camp utilizes our boarding school facilities for sleeping, eating, and praying in the abbey church.
Our 36 acre property is perfect for a boys' camp, with sports fields, hiking, and an on-site pool.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: St. Michael’s Summer Camp is a day and night resident camp for boys, ages 7-12. It has been in operation since 1962 and is accredited by the American Camping Association. Sessions are one week long, from Sunday afternoon to Saturday afternoon, extending from early July to early August.

Operated by the priests and seminarians of St. Michael’s Abbey, the camp offers good, wholesome fun in a safe environment, as well as instruction in the Catholic faith and participation in the sacraments.

With a wide variety of activities, ranging from classic team sports to tarantula hunting to epic battles that determine the fate of the entire universe, St. Michael’s Summer Camp is truly “Where All Boys Have Fun!”®

Upon their arrival on Sunday afternoon, the campers are divided into councils of 6-8 boys per counselor. The campers are always supervised. Even at night, two staff members are present in every dorm. Sleeping arrangements consist of three bunkrooms and one large military tent, each sleeping 3-6 councils.

CAMP FACILITIES: River Way Ranch Camp operates as a resort 9 months out of the year when camp is not in session. Campers stay in air-conditioned cabins, and sleep 8 to a room, with two counselors. CAMP FACILITIES: Parents use their local pool to supervise kid's stroke drills and video them underwater so they can see and correct their stroke.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Since 1985, the only swim camps that teach parents how to teach their kids to swim like World Record holders using a smartphone underwater video camera. Our swimmers have won 43 Gold Medals, state and national championships, and have set 11 World Records.

Computer analysis of our swimmers at Colorado Springs showed that they doubled their peak hand force output in just five days. Dryland and Pool sessions are 3 hours each and include underwater videotaping and special drills to improve stroke efficiency. Most freestylers cut their stroke count in half. Each camp is a total of 30 hours.

Dryland sessions include stroke, strength and flexibility analysis, Microfiber Reduction to increase flexibility beyond what stretching alone can do, and stretches and strength training exercises. Each swimmer receives a 2500 yard workout to do at home after the camp, and a Somax Powerbelt to increase the strength and speed of hip rotation. Parents report improved school grades after chest expansion is doubled.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summer Camp - Ages 8-14: Campers come for 1 week or two week session (and some for 3, 4, or 5 weeks!) and go on wilderness trips. Each week there are 3 day, 2 night trips to Tahoe, the Sierra Buttes, and/or the Yuba River.

Teen Leadership Camp - Ages 15-16: These exciting programs takes the Summer Camp experience to a whole new level for 15 and 16 year olds: We offer a two-week hiking program, a one-week farming and cooking program, and a two-week bike repair and bike touring program.

Hiking Program (Two weeks): TLCers will spend two days bonding, learning about their trip, and preparing for hiking. They and their trip leaders will then embark on a 10-day backpacking trip along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). They will then return to camp, and will have two days of closure at the end.

Farming & Cooking Program (One week): TLCers will spend their week working in Woolman's organic garden, learning about farming, plants and the farm to table journeys of the food we eat. They will learn nutrition and cooking skills as they prepare many of their meals with the fruits and vegetables harvested.

CAMP FACILITIES: Sino Language is pleased to have the The Second High School Attached to Beijing Normal University be our host campus for our Chinese Language & Culture Immersion summer camp in Beijing (LCB). The School was founded in 1953. With the fine school spirit and high teaching quality, the school enjoys a high reputation in the society as well as international influence. It is a prime or a �key� high school of Beijing municipality, and one of the first model schools of Beijing Education Commission.

The School is not only pride of being highly respected in teaching, but also emphasis enough on students� well-rounded development. Unique program provides worldwide students age 8 to 18 to learn Chinese language in China, experience the rich culture and explore the country. Intensive Mandarin courses (all levels) combined with colorful activities, eye-opening traveling, full accommodation with meals and air transfer inside of China offers participants a summer full with fun, excitement and learning. CAMP FACILITIES: We are located on 220 acres in the Malibu mountains. It is a nice rustic-type camp , with refurbished boys' side cabins as of 2014 and the girls' side on schedule for refurbishment within the next couple of years. We have an outdoor pool, basketball courts, ping pong tables, gaga court, sports field, ropes course (upper and lower elements) hiking trails, indoor dining hall, conference center, an area for outdoor camping and adventures and more. We have an organic garden, and animal center - with 26 horses, goats, donkeys, chickens, rabbits, a cow and more.

The heart of Camp JCA Shalom is our friendly and loving staff. Staff are carefully selected for their skills and sensitivity in working with children. Our staff comes from all over the world: Los Angeles, the Bay Area, the Southwest, the East Coast, Canada and Israel.

TASC : Teen Age Service Camp
(entering 10th -11th grades)

TASC is geared toward developing leadership, through a group-oriented community project implemented by the campers, and through special programs. Throughout the session, TASCers experience pride and fulfillment as they enrich the Camp JCA Shalom campus. In addition, TASCers get to experience the best components of the general camp program along with a special out-of-camp overnight trip. For over 45 years, the TASC program has been one of our most popular teen programs.

TASC : California Kibbutz -
(entering 11th grades)

TASC Kibbutz is a new program created just for entering 11th graders. This program is an immersive three week program designed to be the ultimate Jewish camping and leadership experience. In TASC Kibbutz, we transport ourselves back a hundred years ago to feel what it was like for some of the pioneers who made their way to Israel. The "Kibbutzniks" will have to "create their own world" at camp. They will build their own living area, cook many of their own meals, and even help work the farm at camp! By creating a kibbutz at JCA, the Kibbutzniks will come together as a tightly knit community, grow closer to the land; learn about sustainability and organic farming; and gain knowledge of kibbutz life in Israel- all while having fun at camp! While the Kibbutzniks will spend the majority of time creating their kibbutz, they will still be connected to camp, spending sometime every day with the rest of the camp community, and still participating in many of camps offerings such as horseback riding and the ropes course. At the end of the program, the Kibbutzniks will leave with a sense of accomplishment, a set of friends for life, and a true finale of their last camp experience before becoming a Counselor-In-Training (CIT).

(entering grade 12)

These future leaders have a lasting effect on both the spirit and welfare of Camp JCA Shalom. Workshops in Jewish programming, child development and leadership training, along with observation, individual supervision and actual work with younger campers, helps the CIT explore the functioning and philosophy of camp, and develop his/her leadership abilities. This is an enriching and exciting experience as well as an important step towards future staff positions at camp. By the end of the summer, the CITs have the opportunity to become junior counselors during Session 3, and will receive a small stipend. Personal Interview required.

All Teen Leadership Programs:

- Require an additional application and interview prior to acceptance.
- Have a minimum and maximum number of participants.
- Have opportunities to gain community service hours.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Los Angeles Maritime Institute was founded to better serve at risk youth in 1992 but our founder Jim Gladson had been working to that for many years prior. We work to give kids skills that cannot be gained at home or in a class room include team building, problem solving, decision-making, planning, self-reliance and leadership. And sailing is part of the global human heritage that we want everyone to experience at least once in their lives. No sailing experience necessary… we will provide that! Learn the ropes of sailing a large vessel as you challenge yourself with exciting new opportunities: leaving the dock, setting and adjusting sails, keeping a ship on course, setting the anchor, and living aboard a ship for a week or two. CAMP FACILITIES: In both NYC and LA, campuses are accessible only with a valid AMDA photo identification card, which High School Summer Conservatory students receive.

Supervision is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. When students are not in class with our world-class faculty, they are supervised by members of our trained AMDA staff.

Students leave campus only for planned and chaperoned outings, which may include going to a Broadway show or visiting NYC and LA tourist destinations.

Students explore the most scenic and beautiful places in a particular region, and travel between activity sites in brand-new, 15-passenger vans. Brief Description: Camp counselors at Pali Adventures are responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of campers. They supervise campers in a cabin setting, at mealtimes, and during activities. Counselors are in charge of facilitating activities throughout the day. Counselors work as a team to ensure all campers have a fun and memorable experience at camp. Counselors report directly to their Specialty Director and Group Leader.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Exhibit characteristics of responsibility, dependability, leadership, patience, punctuality, hard work, sense of humor, self-control, integrity, common sense, good judgment and a positive enthusiastic attitude.
 Complete the staff application and interview process.
 Attend staff training (May 30 – June 12) and all in-service trainings.
 Must have completed high school and be a minimum 18 years of age or older as of 5/30/20.

Staff members are entrusted with the care and safety of young children in a rustic setting replete with natural and man-made dangers. Every year talented players attend our camps and challenge each other to the limit, growing in skill and experience. CAMP FACILITIES: We have 20 modern open air cabins, large dining hall, outdoor basketball, tennis courts and large ball field. Being on an island, our site is right on the beach. We have an amphitheater for campfires and an amazing climbing wall and high-ropes facility.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp del Corazon is an ACA accredited camp that serves children with heart disease. Camp del Corazon (Camp of the Heart) was founded in 1995 by a UCLA nurse and doctor who wanted to provide a new kind of healing to their pediatric cardiac patients. Today the camp serves over 400 children a summer.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We offer year-round retreats for congenital heart patients between 18 and 24 years old on the mainland. This program is called the Progressive Adult Cardiac Experience (PACE). This program is aimed at developing the practical and leadership skills that young adults with heart disease will need as they transition into their adult lives. This program often involves a weekend of camping, teambuilding games and workshops.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: YEA Camp is a unique and inspiring leadership summer camp for youth 12-17 who care about community service, activism and social justice. A week-long sleep-away program in a beautiful camp location, YEA is designed to be a fun and transformative experience that builds life-long friendships between youth with similar interests. At Marin Ranch Camp, the opportunities to engage with nature are limitless thanks to our lake, river, organic garden, farm animals and hiking trails spanning over 1,700 acres in beautiful West Marin.

Sure, we do all the traditional camp activities like canoeing, archery and a ropes course to name a few, but it goes much deeper than that.

We believe in the power of our sleep-away camp.

We recognize the importance of providing children with a space where they can get away from the pressures of everyday life and experience freedom from stress and over-scheduling.

Our caring and thoughtful team helps each child have the best possible experience by acknowledging them as an individual with their own strengths, challenges, fears and passions. Campers are provided a space where they feel safe to step a bit outside of their comfort zone and challenge themselves by experiencing new adventures.

We hold a deep understanding of the incredible transformation that occurs when kids attend our residential camp. We support them as they learn and grow in a new and encouraging environment, away from the familiar surroundings of home and family, and we welcome them into our loving community where it is safe be yourself.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our high school campers are Leaders-in-Training (LITs). Campers in this program will get the same great Marin Ranch Camp experience, with many added responsibilities and activities. Our trained and experienced directors take a special interest in these young leaders, gauging their established leadership, teamwork and communication abilities and taking them to the next level using fun games and ropes course challenges.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Director Miltenberg, the Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field and Cross Country welcomes all athletes to the 2015 Stanford Track and Field and Cross Country Camps of Champions!

As a third year director of the Stanford Track and Cross Country programs, Coach Miltenberg brings a wealth of experience to The Farm including having coached 39 All-Americans, multiple NCAA champions, as well as having been named the 2011 Coaches’ Association Women’s National Coach of the Year.

CAMP FACILITIES: San Diego State University is the oldest and largest higher education institution in the San Diego region. Since it was founded in 1897, the university has grown to become a nationally ranked research university. Campers stay in the dorms on campus, 2 per room, and train on the SDSU soccer turf playing fields.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: SDSU Men's Head Coach Entering his 16th season at the helm of the SDSU men's soccer program, Camp Director Lev Kirshner has brought the Aztecs back into the national spotlight while leading the program into its 11th season as a member of the Pac-12 Conference.
